Reno is being asked to think Gold. After almost six months of work, a gold campaign reaches its biggest moment in support of children with cancer.
After months of planning and outreach, the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation's Know the Gold Campaign has reached its most visible phase, with the community now being encouraged to show support and donate to children facing cancer across the region.
The campaign continues through February 5, but organizers say the groundwork began six months ago to build awareness and momentum ahead of its largest fundraising effort.
The push culminates in the 15th Annual Live Know the Gold Radiothon at SCHEELS on February 5, running from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All contributions to the Know the Gold Campaign from now through February 5 will be matched dollar for dollar by the William N. Pennington Foundation, up to $1,250,000.
According to the foundation, donations help provide emotional and financial support for children in northern Nevada who have received a cancer diagnosis.
The funding supports families across the region, from Reno to rural communities, helping with medical bills and copays, travel to treatment, and access to emotional and mental health support.
Organizers say the goal is to make sure families do not face childhood cancer alone and that the long buildup to the campaign’s final stretch allows more people to get involved and make an impact.
“Without you, it would have been 10 times harder in this entire process, and because of NNCCF, you all have given my family hope to focus on what’s truly important, and that is our daughter’s care. I can’t thank you enough from the bottom of my heart.” – NNCCF Family
