A residential fire in Glenbrook was kept from spreading significantly early Monday after a home's fire sprinkler system activated before firefighters arrived.

According to the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District in an online post, crews responded to the fire at 5:36 a.m. alongside firefighters from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and East Fork Fire Protection District.

The district said the home's residential fire sprinkler system helped contain the fire to a manageable size before crews reached the scene, reducing the potential for significant fire spread and property loss.

Fire officials said residential sprinklers, when paired with working smoke alarms, provide critical early fire protection and can play an important role during fire emergencies, and serve as another reminder that residential fire sprinklers can save lives, protect property, and provide firefighters with a critical advantage when responding to fires.

The district also thanked firefighters from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and East Fork Fire Protection District for their response efforts. East Fork Fire Protection District helped maintain emergency coverage throughout the district while crews were committed to the incident.
