Nevada women's basketball falls to UNLV in Silver State Series

UNLV defeated Nevada women's basketball 98-67 on Saturday night at Lawlor Events Center in the second game of the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union.

Sophomore forward Kennedy Lee matched a career-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds. Freshman guard Izzy Sullivan scored 17 points, shooting 60 percent from 3-point range, while junior guard Audrey Roden added 13 points and senior forward Lexie Givens came up with 11 points.

UNLV opened the game on a quick 6-0 scoring run and went up by seven early, but seven straight points from Lee allowed the Pack to trim the Lady Rebels' lead. UNLV responded with a 12-2 scoring run that stretched the lead double digits to close the opening period.

After trading baskets to open the second quarter, UNLV tallied three consecutive baskets to maintain its lead. UNLV finished the second quarter shooting 50 percent while holding the Pack to 21.4 percent from the field to go into the locker room with its double-digit advantage.

Nevada continued to battle coming out of halftime, with Givens opening the period with a basket while drawing the foul. A 3-pointer by Sullivan and a layup from Givens allowed Nevada to trim the deficit, but UNLV scored the final six points to go into the fourth quarter with the lead.

The Pack's offense came out blazing in the final period, hitting 10 of their final 14 shots for the game. Nevada knocked down a trio of 3-pointers to go with a jumper with under three minutes left to play, but UNLV kept up offensively with 56.2 percent shooting from the field in the final period. Nevada scored seven of the final nine points of the game, but UNLV's deficit was too much for the Pack to overcome.

Nevada goes on the road to take on Colorado State on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
