The stop in Sparks has been cancelled due to the Big Boy getting held up in Roseville.

According to the Union Pacific, a track issue has caused the Sparks, Truckee, and Colfax stops to be cancelled.

Union Pacific Railroad's Big Boy No. 4014 Westward Bound Tour made its first stop in Nevada this week.

Big Boy No. 4014 is the world's largest operating steam locomotive, and it made its first stop Nevada stop in Wells while it continued traveling from Salt Lake City, Utah to Elko. 

The locomotive will be stopping in Sparks on Sunday, July 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. across from the Nugget Casino Resort on Nugget Avenue.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, July 6, Utah to Elko, from 5:15 p.m. to 5:30 pm

 Other stops include:

  • Monday, July 8 - Elko to Winnemucca with a stop in Carlin from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Monday, July 8 - Stop in Battle Mountain from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, July 9 - Winnemucca to Portola, California with a stop in Gerlach from 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, July 10 - Portola, California from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Public Display
  • Thursday, July 11 - Oroville, California from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
  • Friday, July 12 - Roseville, California from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Public Display 
  • Saturday, July 13 - Roseville, California from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Public Display
  • Sunday, July 14 - Colfax, California from 11:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 14 - Truckee, California from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Sunday, July 14 - Sparks, Nevada from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 16 - Sparks to Winnemucca with a stop in Lovelock from 1 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, July 17 - Winnemucca to Elko with a stop in Carlin from 1:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Friday, July 19 - Elko to Ogden, Utah with a stop in Montello from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

During the public stops, the public will have a free opportunity to experience the Union Pacific Rail Car. 

This restored baggage car now serves as a traveling history museum, providing a glimpse of the past while telling the story of modern-day railroading through sounds, images and interactive technology.
