One man is dead after BASE jumping in Lamoille Canyon in Elko County on June 12 around 9:56 a.m., officials said.

The Elko County Sheriff's Office says Daniel John Ristow was wearing a wingsuit and a parachute. Officials say Ristow "was unable to outfly the talus," or the slope of rocks at the bottom of the cliff. 

Ristow hit the rocks near the bottom of the cliff, officials say.

One of the BASE jumpers was able to help officials retrieve Ristow from the area.
