Beginning Sunday at 9:00 p.m road lane closures will be in place on South Carson Street and U.S. 50 near Spooner Junction.Â
These nighttime closures are part of the Nevada Department of Transportation's Carson City Freeway project. The closures are anticipated to last approximately one week, closing every night from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.Â
NDOT says crews will be constructing a drainage culvert under the freeway which will house a conveyor system crews will use to move nearly 6000,000 cubic yards of earth from the construction site. They say using the conveyor belt system will alleviate the need to transport the earth by truck, eliminating what could have been months of traffic delays.Â
This construction is part of the Carson City Freeway Project which will pave and open the approximately last four miles of freeway to traffic between Fairview Drive and the Spooner/U.S. 50 junction in South Carson City. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.Â
