The Placer County Sheriff’s Office says it was able to arrest two suspects with the help of its newly launched drone.
Deputies released the footage on Friday and shows deputies serving a search warrant earlier this week.
Deputies say the drone operator spotted two suspects trying to run away from the property before deputies could get on scene with a patrol car.
The first suspect surrendered after the patrol car drove around three buildings.
Deputies say the drone operator alerted them to the second suspect who ran into a nearby field. Eventually that person walked towards deputies and was taken into custody.
Deputies say they launched the drone just about one month ago.
“The UAS is our newest resource to help our deputies during critical incidents and crimes in progress,” the sheriff’s office says. “This is the perfect example of how the UAS provides deputies with a 'bird’s-eye' perspective, when they could have easily missed a potential threat.”
