Reno Man Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison for Threatening to Shoot Bank Manager

The Justice Department says a Reno man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he threatened to shoot a bank manager in July 2018. 

The DOJ says in November 2019, a jury convicted 54-year-old Robert Liesse of two counts of interstate communications containing a threat to injure another person. 

According to court documents, the DOJ says Liesse made two phone calls to Bank of America call centers on July 26 and 27, 2018, threatening to shoot a bank manager.

Reno Police say they have arrested a 53-year-old man on an aggravated stalking charge after he threatened several bank employees. 

Police say Robert Liesse Jr. told people that he was going to bring a gun and shoot tellers and responding officers while at a Bank of America in south Reno on Thursday. Police say he was upset as he was unable to access funds that he had recently deposited

When employees arrived the next day, police sat they found several handwritten notes left by him. 

Police say the notes contained additional threats to the employees, and specifically the teller who had previously helped Liesse. Police say the threats included derogatory language and specific threats towards the teller’s sexual orientation, which also included language to indicate Liesse had recently followed the teller after completion of their shift.

Liesse was located and arrested without incident. He was booked into the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Jail on one count of Aggravated Stalking with a Hate Crime Enhancement as well as one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
