Some residents in Northwest Reno say they were victims of a string of car burglaries, that happened early Sunday morning. Mike Mattiuzzi is one victim that woke up to an unpleasant surprise.

"I found that my vehicle was broken into around 6 a.m. It was ransacked." Mattiuzzi said.

He said his wallet and ID were stolen. Mattiuzzi also realized he wasn't the only victim when he saw posts on Next Door.

The Carlson family posted a video of two people ransacking both of their cars. However, the video shows that they ran off after one suspect honked the horn of a truck they were invading. The suspects didn't get away with anything of value, according to the Carlson's. In fact, the Carlson's were able to retrieve a bag that was stolen.

"We found out later that some people from the Next Door app were able to recover items, they found some on the street. And we went looking around the street and up on the top of the road we found all of the contents of her bag. A couple of capes and a bucket of bleach." said Peter Carlson.

Both victims say they left their cars unlocked, but they say the incident was still unexpected.

Mattiuzzi said, "The area in general, I've never even seen the police go through here because I think it's a pretty safe area. But it surprised me quite a bit to see that my vehicle had been broken into."

"We felt like, kind of unsafe in what should be a very safe neighborhood. And just having people dig through your stuff is kind of violating." said Carlson.

Both residents filed a police report and they say they'll be taking extra measures to secure their property and they're urging others to lock up and be aware.

This is a developing story. 2 News is waiting to hear back from the Reno Police Department's burglary detectives to see where they're at with investigating these incidents.
