Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett met with Vice President Mike Pence and Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday.

The party is finalizing plans to confirm Barrett before the presidential election.

Trump has made clear he will challenge the results if he loses - and indicated he thinks another conservative on the high court will help him stay in power.

Barrett's Capitol Hill visit comes just days after Trump nominated her to succeed the late justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Her confirmation would give the court a 6-3 conservative majority - making it the most conservative Supreme Court in many years.

Her writings on religion and the law have made her a favorite of the political right in recent years.

Democrats fear Barrett's confirmation will mean an end to the Affordable Care Act and possibly threaten women's reproductive rights.
