Mt. Rose officials say the first day of the year is always one of the busiest, when the weather cooperates of course.
"We have some mixed weather coming through as we always do in the Sierras. But we're looking for some more snow to come through this weekend," says Travis Bennett a Marketing Specialist at Mt. Rose.
But the stormy weather is not stopping some brave skiers and snowboarders.
"The boys were coming up and I really had nothing else to do. I'd rather be up here than sitting at home," says Lyle Vellone.
"It's better than being at home and playing video games. It keeps you active and healthy," says Aaron Hoadley.
"I wanted to spend the first day of the year because well it's the first day of the year and I thought it would be kind of fun," says Logan Fulton.
Mt. Rose officials say because it is the start of the New Year they have some discounts in store.
"Starting this Sunday we will be back with our daily specials. $79 dollar lift tickets for adults and $29 for kids. It's a great deal if you have your local id, if you want to come up and get into the snow again, we welcome you back," says Bennett.
