Sparks Police Investigate Alleged Robbery and Kidnapping

The Sparks Police Department is investigating a frightening incident that they tell us happened on Friday night.

Investigators say they got a 911 call around 9pm from a person who reported seeing a man dragging a woman out of a car and into a nearby apartment in the 500 block of Sparks Boulevard.

Police say despite being held against her will and threatened with a screw driver, the victim in this case only received minor injuries.

They add that they have two people in custody they think are responsible for the alleged crime.

The first is Jamal Le Dale Wright who police say is a friend of the woman while the second is Jamal's brother, Brandon Wright.

Police say Jamal and Brandon Wright are being charged with kidnapping, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

"This is pretty unusual, we don't see this very often to this magnitude," says Sparks Police Lieutenant Chad Hawkins.

Police say the suspects allegedly kidnapped the woman from her home in Sun Valley. They tell us they then took her to various ATM's where she was forced to withdraw money. Then they allegedly drove her to the Park Vista Apartments where they tell us the suspects pulled a sweatshirt over the her head, held a screwdriver to her neck and threatened to kill her if she didn't follow their demands.

Police say thanks to the witness' call, they were able to find the woman and save her in time.

"There's only a few of us that are out there in the city so we rely on the citizens a lot to be our eyes and ears. In this case that citizen may have saved this female's life."

The police department would like to encourage all citizens to call 911 or Secret Witness at 322-4900 if they see an emergency taking place. You can also text your tip to 847411 or go online to www.secretwitness.com. Your information will remain anonymous.
