Catholic charities of Northern Nevada helps more than 20,000 people every month. A lot of their programs get a boost from donations and fundraisers, like the upcoming Leprechauns and Libations fundraiser at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Reno this Saturday. It's a family-friendly event.

"The whole family is invited to come down to the bocce area, eat, drink, play and really learn about all that Catholic Charities does here in Northern Nevada," said CEO Marie Baxter. "Everyone knows the St. Vincent's dining room, they know our food pantry, but our programs are so much more extensive. We have programs related to homeless prevention, our Crossroads sober living facility, our immigration programs, our emergency assistance programs. And that's where we're seeing the greatest need outside of our food programs right now. So fundraisers like Leprechauns and Libations are critical to helping us meet those needs in our community."

All donations to Catholic Charities stay here locally to help those in need and right now, one of the biggest issue is the homeless population and those displaced by rising rents.

"As the rental rates are going up - especially near the end of the month - we are seeing dozens and dozens of people coming in that are about to be evicted or are really in a perilous situation and our need for rental assistance is just through the roof," Baxter said. "We could have hundreds of thousands of dollars and still not meet the needs right now. But every dollar we get from a fundraiser like Leprechauns and Libations to general donations is keeping somebody from ending up on the streets right now; it's critical funding."
