Nevada Wolf Pack #7 in USA Today Coaches Poll, #8 in AP Poll

The 19-1 University of Nevada men’s basketball team remained seventh in the latest USA Today Coaches poll but slipped a spot to eighth in the Associated Press poll despite winning 100-60 over Colorado State in its only game last week.

The Wolf Pack has been ranked all 13 weeks of the 2018-19 season and the last 18 weeks in both polls dating back to last season.

The Pack’s highest ranking of the season was fifth on Nov. 26 in the AP poll and fifth on Dec. 31 in the USA Today Coaches poll. Both are the highest rankings in school history.

Nevada (19-1, 6-1 MW) is at UNLV (11-8, 5-2 MW) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The Pack leads the Mountain West with a 6-1 record while the Rebels are in a three-way tie with Utah State and Fresno State at 5-2. The game will air on ESPN2.

Meanwhile, Tennessee stayed atop the poll for a second straight week.

The Volunteers earned 48 of 64 first-place votes in Monday's poll to extend the program's first stint at No. 1 since February 2008. Tennessee (18-1) has won 14 straight games.

The top six remained unchanged, with Duke sitting at No. 2, followed by Virginia, Gonzaga, Michigan and Michigan State. Kentucky moved past Nevada to reach No. 7, while North Carolina and Marquette each rose two spots to round out the top 10.

No. 15 Louisville had the week's biggest jump - moving up eight spots - while No. 17 Purdue, No. 24 Wisconsin and No. 25 Florida State returned to the rankings.

Auburn, Iowa and Mississippi fell out of the poll.
