UPDATE: The Reno City Council chose four finalists that could fill David Bobzien's former at-large council seat Wednesday.
Those finalists are:
Devon Reese
Britton Griffith
Nathan Dupree
Krystal Minera
If you'd like to see their resume and/or personal statements, just click on their name on this list.
There's a question and answer session open to the public with the four finalists Thursday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 at Reno city hall.
The plan is for the council to appoint one of the finalists to the council seat at a special council meeting Friday, Feb. 15th at 2:00 p.m.
To pick the finalists, each council member voted for five of the more than 130 candidates. Reese got six votes, Griffith got five, and Dupree and Minera got three. Several others got two votes, but they voted to have four finalists, instead of a potential nine if everyone who received two votes was a finalist.
We will report more details as they become available.
Governor Steve Sisolak says Reno City Councilman David Bobzien will be the new director of the Governor’s Office of Energy.
“I am excited to name David Bobzien as the head of the Governor’s Office of Energy,” said Governor Steve Sisolak. “David’s experience and leadership in the State Legislature and on the Reno City Council will serve the office and the state well. I am excited to work with him as we begin this new chapter in Nevada.”
David Bobzien has served as the At-Large Council Member on the Reno City Council since 2014.
“This news is bittersweet for the City of Reno,” Mayor Hillary Schieve said. “The State of Nevada is adding a truly talented and well-respected individual to their team, but at the same time we are losing an incredible asset here at the City. David has a wealth of legislative and policy experience. We thank him for his years of service, and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
“I am honored and humbled by Governor Sisolak’s appointment to this key position,” Bobzien said. “I worked with some outstanding professionals at the City of Reno, and I am proud that I was able to serve the citizens of Reno as a City Council Member.”
“Councilmember Bobzien has been a steadfast public servant who has dedicated much of his professional career to the betterment of the State of Nevada and, most recently, to the betterment of the City of Reno,” Reno City Manager Sabra Newby said. “He has particularly been a champion of the City’s involvement in sustainability efforts, parks and open space and historical resources. While the City of Reno will certainly miss him, I am excited that he will continue his distinguished public service career in clean energy efforts on a statewide basis.”
Prior to his time on the Reno City Council, Bobzien served four terms as a legislator in the Nevada Assembly, representing District 24, where his work included conservation and clean energy efforts.
Bobzien’s first day with the Governor’s Office of Energy will be Tuesday, January 22, 2019, making his resignation with the City of Reno official at that time.
The Reno City Council will discuss the At-Large vacancy and how to move forward at its regular meeting on January 23, 2019 starting at 10 a.m.
