Update, April 24
The identity of the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash on Geiger Grade Road on Saturday has been released, along with additional details about the crash.
25-year-old Kyle Rodgers of Reno was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, according to a release from the Nevada State Police.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2009 Triumph Daytona 675 motorcycle, driven by Rodgers, was heading south on Geiger Grade Road south of Rim Rock Road.
Rodgers was driving too fast for the curved road, the release says, and lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to flip onto its right side and eject him.
After he was ejected, both Rodgers and the motorcycle hit the guardrail on the northbound side of the road.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Region Two Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash.
So far this year, Nevada Highway Patrol Region Two has investigated 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities.
Update (April 19), 10:12 p.m.:
According to NDOT, Geiger Grade Road has reopened.
Original (April 19):
State Route 341, also known as Geiger Grade Road, is closed in both directions due to a fatal crash, according to Nevada State Police.
Officials say Highway Patrol officers first responded to the crash at 6:13 p.m., just north of Washoe Mile Marker 4. Police say an adult man riding a motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to turn on a curve. He was pronounced dead on scene.
The investigation is ongoing at this time. Motorists are asked to use an alternate route and avoid the area.
