History will have its eyes on the pioneer center tonight, as hundreds of Hamilton fans wait to be "in the room where it happens," but they have to take precautions. They are making sure everyone is safe, and will be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test result, so don't throw away proof of your shot.

"To see all of those people on our stage after it had been dark for so long, building this beautiful set to create the show that will premier tonight moved me to tears," said Dennyse Sewell, Executive Director for the Pioneer Center.

For those of you who don't know the premise, the show is a musical number telling the story of Alexander Hamilton--but with a modern twist.

"It is primarily through spoken word and rap. It's different than a traditional musical, it's a really modern spin on the art form," said Sewell.

But in order to protect the audience, cast members, and volunteer ushers who are usually elderly, you will need to bring a few things.

"When they arrive on site, they need to show their photo ID, along with proof of full vaccination status or a negative COVID test result," said Sewell.

Audience members will also need to wear a face mask at all times, and these rules also apply to children attending as well. Which is something Sewell says the majority of patrons have been grateful for.

“There have been a small number of folks who've indicated that they are not willing to follow the protocol, and we have issued refunds for their tickets. But it's about 1 half of 1 percent of the total," said Sewell.

For those who have yet to receive the vaccine, testing options are still there, however county health officials say to get tested elsewhere for the show.

“We may have some of those coming here, but I would encourage them to seek testing from other providers if they are doing it for recreational purposes," said Washoe County Health Officer Kevin Dick.

“There are some medical providers here in town, separate doctors offices that do administer the rapid tests on site," said Sewell.

They accept at home test results, which are available at places like Walgreen’s and CVS, just make sure to take a picture of the negative test result and a photo ID in the same picture.

“This show is hands down the biggest thing we have ever done, the energy in that building is electric and the audiences haven't even arrived yet," said Sewell.

If you forget your vaccination card, Immunize Nevada will be on site to look up your vaccination records. The show will be in town for the next two weeks, so don't throw away your shot to see the first Broadway musical to hit the pioneer center in over 600 days!
