Plenty of people in the Reno-Sparks area are getting a head start on their New Year's resolutions. As you can imagine, a lot of them are looking forward to fitness-related goals.

"My New Year's resolution is to go to the gym five times a week," said Brady Poppler.

The Crunch Fitness location in Sparks does see an increase in visitors around January 1st. However, its general manager said it has less to do with resolutions and more to do with returning to old habits.

"Come New Year's, and there's no holidays around this time. People start to tend to gravitate back towards their fitness goals, or just work towards where they were before," said Nick Moniz, general manager at Crunch Fitness Sparks.

Moniz said running has become a growing trend at his location, with more people coming to the gym for the treadmills instead of dealing with the cold outside.

From losing weight to finding consistency, our community said they have a wide range of fitness-related resolutions.

"My fitness goal is just to lose like 10, 15 pounds because I'm trying to compete this year in jiujitsu," said Brian Alvarado.

"I used to be a pretty heavy weightlifter but took a lot of time off, and I'm trying to get back into it to be more consistent," said Katie Mayse.

For folks who need to kick-start their resolutions, these people offered some ways to do just that.

"Don't be afraid to fail," Alvarado said. "It's better to fail than say, 'oh, next time.' You know, baby steps."

"Keep pushing and find a friend, find a buddy to go do it with," Poppler added.

"Just push yourself because you'll never know unless you try," Mayse said. "There's always a way to be a better version of yourself."

"I would love to see a change for you next year," Moniz said.
