A day on the mini-golf course is turning into something bigger for families looking to give back in a simple way.
Girls on the Run Sierras will host its sixth annual Mini-Golf FUNdraiser at Wild Island on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event raises money to support programs designed to help girls in the community participate this season.
Organizers say the event is meant to be easy to attend, with no registration required. People can show up, play either 18 or 36 holes at their own pace, and take part in activities throughout the day.
Along with time on the course, participants can meet members of the University of Nevada, Reno women’s golf team and get putting tips. Refreshments will also be available.
“We’re always encouraging families to bring their kids and come connect with and learn about GOTR-S,” said Joy Heuer, Executive Director of Girls on the Run Sierras. “This fundraiser is always a great time to enjoy a fun, stress-free afternoon surrounded by community.”
Girls on the Run Sierras is a 501c3 nonprofit established in California in 2007 and Nevada in 2011. Trained volunteer coaches lead lessons that combine physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, building friendships, and expressing empathy. The organization has served more than 5,000 girls in the Reno-Tahoe area.
Organizers say every dollar raised goes back into the program, helping expand access for girls across the region.
