Lyon County officials have filed a 'court action' seeking the county clerk to correct mistakes on primary ballots and to hold a special primary election for the affected races.

Lyon County Clerk Treasurer Staci Lindberg and Lyon County District Attorney Stephen B. Rye, filed the court action in the Third Judicial District Court on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Officials are seeking authorization to allow the county clerk to correct the Fernley City Council Ward 5 and the Stagecoach General Improvement District Trustees races.

The City says the Lyon County Clerk has requested that an expedited hearing be scheduled for the District Court to consider the Clerk's requests.

A hearing date has not yet been scheduled.

The 2024 Lyon County Primary Election is proceeding as required for all races and the error will not affect any other candidates or races within Lyon County.  Early voting and mail-in ballots are underway. Election Day is June 11, 2024.

Polling locations for early voting and Election Day, and drop off locations for mail ballots are available on the elections page of the Lyon County website.

MAY 22, 2024:

On Wednesday, Lyon County and the Nevada Secretary of State addressed errors found on the primary ballot in that county.

The issues involve the number of candidates listed in Fernley City Council Ward 5 and the Stagecoach General Improvement District Trustee races.

The county was not clear about what the exact problem is, but officials say they are working through them and will have additional information for the candidates and voters by the end of this week.

They want to assure voters that these were the only issues and the rest of the ballot is accurate.
