Almost halfway through early voting in the general election, Washoe County is seeing some common questions from voters, especially about mail ballots. A polling place manager and the county communications manager spoke with 2 News Nevada to answer frequently asked questions.

What if I haven’t received my mail ballot yet?

Bethany Drysdale, communications manager: “We sent out about 360,000 ballots, so it’s possible it’s been held up. If you are patient and wait a day or two, it may still show up. If you really want it today, you can call our office and we can figure out what the best option for you is.

“If somebody calls our office, they can have their registration looked up and make sure that it is correct, make sure there is no error on how they entered their mailing address, or even request a counter ballot, which is a ballot we can print on-site. …

“Early voting is on through Nov. 1, so if you haven’t received your ballot, and going to a vote center is no big deal, go vote in person.”

Where should I go to drop off my mail ballot?

Bethany Drysdale, communications manager: “If you are a Washoe County voter you can drop your ballot at any vote center in Washoe County. You can bring it to our office here (on 1001 E. 9th St.). …

“We have 24 vote centers through early voting, and then on Election Day we’ll have 55, so there are a lot of options to drop off your ballot.”

Do I have to wait in line if I’m dropping off my mail ballot at a vote center?

Mark Brown, Vote Center manager: “If you have a drop off ballot that’s already been filled in, go ahead to the head of the line. We have a special place where you can drop it. We actually stamp it, date stamp it, and put it in the confidential box. And that’s collected every night and processed.”

What if I have a question about the party acronyms on my ballot?

Bethany Drysdale, communications manager: “We definitely don’t get into politics or parties, but we can answer what those abbreviations mean for voters.”

In an email, the Washoe County Registrar’s office sent a key for the party acronyms on the ballot:

  • NP - Nonpartisan
  • DEM - Democratic
  • REP - Republican
  • IAP - Independent American Party
  • LPN - Libertarian Party of Nevada
  • FP - Forward Party
  • NLN - No Labels Nevada
  • NTP - Nevada Transhumanist Party
  • NPP - No Political Party

Where should I go for my other questions?

Bethany Drysdale, communications manager: “Call our office. … We can also take calls at Washoe 311 about the election, or ask an election worker and they’d be happy to help.”
