Silver State Fire, Burning East of Elko at 3,778 Acres, 100% Contained

UPDATE: The Bureau of Land Management says the Silver State Fire is approximately 3,778 acres and 100% contained as of Tuesday night.

They say that while several structures were threatened, no structures were lost.

There were 200 plus personnel on the fire, including Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) and multiple helicopters.

Elko Daily Free Press reports that an off-road vehicle is the cause of the 2,000-acre wildfire burning east of Elko.

The Silver State Fire began shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday near Silver State Rock Products on Last Chance Road. Elko Daily says within an hour, flames were headed toward Elko Mountain, about 5 miles east of town. 

Ground crews have been fighting the blaze and an air attack is planned for Sunday morning. 

Structures along Last Chance Road and in Burner Basin were threatened but none had been lost as of 8 a.m. Sunday. The fire was estimated at 10 percent contained.

Voluntary evacuations were in effect for the neighborhood east of the city limits. An evacuation center was set up at Southside School.
