Lightning strikes have sparked multiple fires across northeastern Nevada over the last few days.

From July 7 to 9, firefighters responded to 18 new fires across the Elko District, according to a post on Facebook from the Bureau of Land Management - Nevada.

Coordinated response from the U.S Wildland Fire Service, Nevada Division of Forestry, Elko County Fire Protection District, and the U.S. Forest Service has provided a rapid response to each new fire.

Two of the larger incidents mentioned by the BLM include the Jim Fire and the Pinion Fire.

The Jim Fire started July 9 and has burned 564 acres. It is burning 17 miles north of Montello and is not contained.

The Pinion Fire started on July 8, 15 miles west of Jiggs. It has burned 163.8 acres and is 70 percent contained.

As thunderstorms remain in the forecast, firefighters ask everyone to stay aware of changing fire conditions and report any signs of smoke to local authorities.
