Holidays are usually busy at places like the airport or the mall, but not at gyms. According to one of the owners of Stimulus Health + Fitness, during the winter months fitness centers always slow down.

“People are getting ready to gear up for the New Year’s eve goal, right? You know the New Year’s goal, the new year, new me. So they’re kind of taking the winter off and building the winter coat.” said Jeff Baker, a fitness coach and the Co-Owner of Stimulus.

However, he said it’s never too early to start working on yourself. You can still enjoy the holiday goodies, but the trainer said it’s better to do it in moderation.

"Instead of seeing all the food and saying I want to have some of everything, think about just eating what you actually love to eat because a lot of times people eat fillers just because it's there. So try to think of what you actually enjoy and just eat those things instead.” he advises.

When you’re at family feasts, holiday work parties are other celebrations, he also recommends portion control and slow chewing. However if it’s the day after Thanksgiving and you’re feeling guilty because you overindulged, he said stop worrying because it’s not the end of the world.”

"Tomorrow is always a new day so don't think just because you fell off one day it's over. That's just one day out of 365 days out of the whole year. One day is not going to kill you. Just reset the next day, make a new goal for the next day and keep pushing forward." said Baker.

The gym owner is encouraging people to be active. To help with that, his gym is offering a Black Friday deal that expires on December 6. People can sign up for a six month membership and get one month free. Baker is also offering 30 percent of his classes, for interested individuals that sign up for half a year.

Caitlin Best, a member at Stimulus Health + Fitness said the gym is a great place for people who have never stepped foot into a gym.

She said, "I think finding a safe space like Stimulus where there's all kinds of training and all kinds of people and all kinds of goals is a great first step and just adding in small things not trying to do things all at once gives you a better chance at success.">

Baker want also wants to remind people to hydrate and stretch, and he says some activity is better than none. Increasing your activity doesn’t have to happen on a treadmill, you could take a walk in your neighborhood, dance, or do yoga.
