Some people shop early for the holiday season, and some wait until the last minute.
Cynthia Gong, a last-minute holiday shopper, discussed how her experience has been so far.
"It's been going so far," she said. "AÂ little bit behind, but trying to catch up in these next couple of days before Christmas."
We spoke to Gong as she was shopping for her pet.
"We're shopping for some treats for our pup Violet," she said. She just got a bath here because the bath facilities are awesome, but that's about it for her."
Staci Alonso, the owner of Boneito, told us her perspective on being a pet store owner during this time. She says their toy supply has been selling out.
"We work really hard to have unique toys that you can't find everywhere, so we're ringing up a lot more toys right now, and then the holiday treats—we have a meat market, which is all body parts," she said. "We wrap each one so it makes it easier to grab and go, and they're the perfect stocking stuffers."
She says a lot of people also come into her store to clean their pets.
"You can definitely feel the energy," she said. "And our weekend has been filled with dog washes. Everyone wants a clean dog for their holiday festivities, so our dog wash has been busy over the last several days. And in the spirit of shopping, it's been non-stop throughout the weekend. Weather's not our friend right now, but deadlines are deadlines, so we feel it."
Some stores are becoming more popular with shoppers, especially stores offering exclusive holiday merchandise or special promotions. Shoppers are also attracted to tech gadgets and fashion items.
But others prefer to support local small businesses.
Gong tells us what she prefers.
"We like to go to the wasteless shop for their shampoo and conditioner bars, so I restock on those regularly as well as their bulk refills of soap and their body oil, and then we like to go to Perren Grocery to pick up flour because we do a lot of sourdough baking at home," she said.
She adds, "We really believe in supporting small businesses. I think it's really important to keep them going, and they often carry really cool things that you're not going to find at any of the big box retailers."
Alonso also says that the weather plays a factor in last-minute shopping, "Wind is harder than rain. Yesterday the wind was hard for everyone, but I think these last few days of Christmas will be filled with the last-minute rush and holiday spirit."
