Governor Joe Lombardo unveiled a bill on Friday he says will hold schools more accountable and creates more transparency for student success.

Lombardo introduced his Nevada Accountability in Education Act alongside state education leaders at Pinecrest Academy of Nevada in Henderson.

The legislation would make school districts more responsible for students' performance - and if districts do not perform, they could be restructures, and government oversight of schools could be transferred.

“After delivering the largest investment in K–12 education in Nevada’s history, we owe it to our communities to match that investment with real results – and real accountability. I’m proud of what we’ve done so far. But let’s be clear – we can no longer accept lack of funding as an excuse for chronic underperformance,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “That’s why I’m introducing the Accountability in Education Act, which is legislation built on one guiding principle: No child in Nevada should be trapped in a failing school because of their ZIP code or held back because of how much their parents or guardians earn.”

We reached out to Nevada Democratic leaders in the legislature about the bill, and they said they're awaiting the language of the bill to be released so they can review it.
