SEPTEMBER 13, 2024 UPDATE

In December of 2020 officers with the Sparks Police Department shot a woman multiple times during a traffic stop. On Friday the Washoe County District Attorney's Office released a report saying the shooting was justified.

The woman who was shot in the incident was attempting to provoke officers into shooting and killing her according to the report released by the D.A.'s Office.

On December 9th, 2020, just after 11:30 p.m. Sparks Police dispatchers got a call saying a woman was waving a knife, cursing, and yelling at people on Victorian Avenue. The caller also said the suspect was driving a blue Mazda sedan.

About 20 minutes later Sparks Police arrived on scene and spotted the suspicious car.

Officers Bryan Yee and Grant Phillips began following the car, which was speeding.

The Mazda turned north on Pyramid Way and ran a traffic light. At this point, officers turned on their lights and sirens and a chase happened.

The car eventually stopped and the driver, later identified as Ginger Krivac, got out. Krivac was also identified as the person who made the initial 911 call.

When Krivac got out of the car she yelled "Come on, come on!" at the officers and appeared to be carrying a long-barreled gun, later identified as a paintball gun missing an air tank, a hopper, or paintballs.

Officers believed the paintball gun to be an actual rifle and shouted at Krivac to stop several times before opening fire, hitting Krivac in her chest, abdomen, right thigh, right arm, and left hand.

When medical personnel asked her what happened, Krivac said she "could not go on."

She survived the incident.

The publication of the report was delayed until the ongoing criminal prosecution of Krivac, stemming from the incident that led to the shooting was complete.

The report concluded that the shooting of Krivac by Officer Yee and Officer Phillips was justified and not a criminal act.
