A Kentucky man drowned at Lake Tahoe Sunday night, Carson City deputies say.
Authorities say 20-year-old Owen Joseph McDonough was swimming with friends to some offshore rocks along the east shores on the Nevada side when he disappeared beneath the surface, around 5:15 p.m.
Deputies say McDonough was pulled from the water to Whale Beach where lifesaving efforts were not successful - and he died.Â
The family says McDonough was an intermediate skilled swimmer.
Authorities say the investigation revealed that McDonough was not wearing a personal flotation device. Currently, alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor.
McDonough was taken to Washoe County for an autopsy and toxicology tests.Â
