I’ve worked at all levels of government, federal, state, and local. I spent seven years in the US Coast Guard, and 15 years at the Nevada Department of Wildlife, and five years teaching at TMCC. I also own a small business in Reno, Mountain Pose Yoga
WHAT IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY IF ELECTED?
Tackling Washoe County’s affordability crisis in homes, rent and other issues.
IN JUST A FEW SENTENCES: WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FACING OUR COUNTY, AND HOW WOULD YOU FIX IT?
My first issue is housing, but since that’s covered in the following question, my other issue is the lack of business development in surrounding communities, like the North Valleys. So many people have to drive for basic services that it worsens our traffic issues. We need to create a culture of business development that serves people where they live.
HOUSING AND RENT PRICES ARE AT RECORD HIGHS. WHAT’S YOUR PLAN TO HELP EASE THE HOUSING CRUNCH IN WASHOE COUNTY?
We cannot subsidize our way to affordability, so we need to be creative in zoning, building and rental issues. We need to streamline the process for people to alter their own property, and we need to consider ancillary dwelling units, changes in zoning and other creative ways to tackle housing. For too long, we’ve focused on the single-family home as the ideal, when our residents want many different types of options for housing.

Because I grew up in Nevada, and I understand and respect our western tradition of freedom and the desire of our residents to be left alone.
