HOW LONG YOU HAVE LIVED IN NEVADA:Â Â My whole life
WRITE A BRIEF (TWO TO THREE SENTENCES) SUMMARY OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD ENABLE YOU TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THIS OFFICE:
As a lifelong Nevadan, former Army officer, and former state legislator who has dedicated more than 25 years to public service, I am proud to represent Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District in Congress, and hope Nevada voters will allow me to continue to do so. Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve also built the relationships and seniority in the House of Representatives that allows me to be a more effective representative of our state. As a chairman on the House Appropriations Committee, I am in the best position to make sure that Nevada gets its fair share of federal resources, and when I call in federal agencies to discuss issues impacting Nevadans, they actually listen.
WHAT IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY IF ELECTED?
My top priorities in Congress will continue to be specific to Nevadans, including helping foster economic growth in Nevada through the conveyance of federal lands surrounding our communities to local authorities so that they can actually be utilized, using my position as a chairman on the House Appropriations Committee to ensure that federal dollars continue to come to Northern Nevada, and providing oversight of federal agencies in how they carry out their duties in our state and how they treat Nevadans.Â
IN JUST A FEW SENTENCES: WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FACING OUR COUNTRY, AND HOW WOULD YOU FIX IT?
Inflation and the high cost of living continues to be the biggest problem facing Nevada and our country. Even after the pandemic ended, the Biden Administration still spent $4.2 trillion in stimulus packages, in which they pushed funding for a new army of 87,000 additional IRS agents, funding for climate justice and the Green New Deal, and the expansion of Obamacare. With Republicans retaking the House the last election cycle, we have been able to cap annual spending and ensure that there are better guardrails on how taxpayer dollars are being spent, and I will continue to make sure that we’re not just frivolously throwing money at problems that actually require better oversight.
Problem 1A is the crisis at our Southern border.
CONSUMER PRICES AND HOUSING COSTS HAVE SHOT UP SINCE THE PANDEMIC—WHAT’S YOUR PLAN TO HELP NEVADANS WHO ARE STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY?
Consumer prices all revolve around the cost of energy, and unfortunately the Biden Administration’s Green New Deal policies and excessive regulations have driven up costs for all aspects of Americans’ lives. That’s why I was proud to vote for the Lower Energy Costs Act this Congress, which would repeal restrictions on the import and export of natural gas, streamlining the federal permitting process to allow faster buildouts of renewable energy and domestic mining projects, and would repeal the Biden/Harris natural gas tax. Closer to home, I’m leading the efforts in Congress to transfer lands on the outskirts of our communities to the local planning and zoning authorities so that they can be utilized for housing and business development.
IF THE LEGAL RIGHT TO ABORTION WERE TO COME UP FOR A VOTE IN CONGRESS, WOULD YOU VOTE FOR IT? WHY OR WHY NOT?
Nevada voters decided how they want abortion to be treated in the state in 1990 by a voter referendum, and I stand by what Nevadans have decided. Nevadans have already handled this issue, and it has been working for Nevada for well over 30 years. The Supreme Court’s recent decision changed nothing with regard to reproductive rights in Nevada. I do not support legislating nationally on what Nevadans have already decided, and I don’t support taking our voters’ authority away.
IN ONE SENTENCE: WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING VOTERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I’ve spent my whole life advocating for Nevadans and living Nevada’s values – not just learning about the state over the course of one campaign.
YES OR NO: WILL YOU ACCEPT THE RESULTS OF THIS ELECTION, WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE?Â
I have never not accepted the results of an election, and this question to our local registrars who work incredibly hard to put on a good election every cycle. To make it clear, my answer to your questions is yes.
